Here's a big case of "Good luck with that." Samsung's lawyers are demanding to see the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, according to ThisIsMyNext. Samsung says it needs to see Apple's upcoming devices because its iPhone and iPad competitors, the Droid Charge and Galaxy Tab 10.1, will likely be on sale around the same time. Samsung wants to make sure it can spot any possible similarities so it can be ready for any potential legal action from Apple.
Last week a judge granted Apple access to Samsung prototypes of the Galaxy S2, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G and Droid Charge. This will allow Apple to identify elements that could confuse customers into thinking the Samsung devices are the same as Apple's devices. As MacRumors points out, only Apple's lawyers will be able to see the prototype Samsung gear. Similarly, if Samsung were granted access to the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, only the company's lawyers would be able to view them. Still, since it's Samsung that is on the defensive, it's not likely that Samsung will be granted access to Apple's prototypes.
Apple first filed suit against Samsung in April, claiming the Samsung Galaxy line too closely imitated the look and feel of its iOS devices. Samsung's lawyers want access to the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 originally appeared on TUAW on Sun, 29 May 2011 03:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

The brand new iPad implementation of Ticket To Ride is close to perfect, but it needs a few more features before I can wholeheartedly recommend the game. As it stands, if you like Alan R. Moons' wonderful board game and enjoy playing online (or against AI opponents), then get thee to the App Store post haste and fork over your US$6.99. If you're looking for a way to enjoy the game with multiple people around the same iPad (as you can do with the other official app based on a Days of Wonder game, the great Small World), don't bother.
I hope DoW manages to update this app soon with a same-device multiplayer option (either using open cards or using an iPhone/iPod touch "hand" method the way Scrabble does), because it's clear that there are many gamers out there who feel it needs to be implemented. I like what we have now in Ticket To Ride, but read on to see if this is a journey you'd like to go on.

The new ooVoo app offers free video calling to PCs, Macs, Android phones and of course other iPhones. There's also text messaging, and up to 3 people on audio or video calls. PC or Mac users can receive the chats in a browser, and the app supports 3G and Wi-Fi.
It's a boatload of features. The app came out earlier this month but released a version with bug fixes today. User reviews have been positive. ooVoo also offers some enhanced paid plans that include calls to landlines up to 500 minutes a month and up to 6 people on video or audio calls. The paid version is ad-free with a basic plan for US$9.99 a month. You can get more talk time, call recording and other features at $29.99 a month. You can get plan details here.
I think the free version has plenty of desirable features, and it further points out how far Apple's FaceTime is falling behind with Wi-Fi only calling and no calls to anything but an iDevice or Mac. Of course there are always apps like Tango, Skype and Fring, but the advanced feature set of ooVoo is worth a look and perhaps a download if it meets your needs. ooVoo Mobile runs on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, but is not native on the iPad. It requires iOS 4.0 or later. Mac and PC versions can be downloaded at the ooVoo site. I haven't tested the ooVoo app extensively yet, but I'm planning on a feature by feature comparison of all the video chat apps for iOS soon.

Earlier today we told you how Apple's legal team finally caught up with Fei Lam, the teenager from New York who was selling white iPhone 4 conversion kits, and filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against him. Now new information about the whole ordeal has emerged including how exactly Apple found him.
In an interview with Fast Company, Lam says that he first found out about the lawsuit when he received an email from Fast Company. Lam also says that, contrary to reports, he did not make US$130,000 for the sales of white iPhone parts.
He is apparently meeting with Apple's lawyers within the next month to discuss the lawsuit and any legal repercussions, however Lam will not be represented by a lawyer as he doesn't have the funds to cover one. An earlier report by Fast Company also noted that Apple only tracked Lam down after hiring a private investigator that worked for an anti-counterfeit and trademark protection firm. Looks like when it comes to Apple, you can't remain on the lam forever*.

Brothers John and Sam Shahidi are living the classic American dream. The pair developed RunPee, a small iPhone application that lets you find the right time to take a bathroom break during a movie. The app became so popular that the brothers founded a startup company called RockLive. They used their experience with RunPee to help sports celebrities develop their own iOS applications and social presence.
Their first client was Chad Ochocinco of the Cincinnati Bengals and they recently signed Mike Tyson. The brothers developed a free game, Mike Tyson Main Event, that's been downloaded almost one million times. During this time, RockLive has grown from two to 22 employees. The California company is still expanding and looking to attract clients outside the sports realm. So who is on their radar? Musicians, celebrity chefs and stay-at-home Moms, of course. Can't get enough of watching the local TV stations? Cydle has a solution coming for your iPhone.
The soon-to-be-released Cydle i30 is a digital TV receiver "sled" for the iPhone. Featuring its own 1100 mAh battery, it'll snag that local PBS outlet, four Spanish-language stations, and three full-time religious channels that you just can't wait to watch. And yes, since your local network stations are required to broadcast their content not only over cable, but also through digital over-the-air broadcasts, you'll be able to watch just about any network show and enjoy all of the advertising as well.
The advantage of the Cydle i30 is that it doesn't require a Wi-Fi connection or use your precious 3G data plan bits, and many times digital TV is about the only way you're going to be able to watch local sporting events or soap operas on your iPhone. Cable network apps such as Comcast's Xfinity TV provide a lot of on-demand content to watch on your iPhone, but not much live TV. They're also dependent on a Wi-Fi network.
No price or expected ship date has been released for the i30. Cydle i30 is a digital TV receiver for iPhone originally appeared on TUAW on Fri, 27 May 2011 12:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
